After the title was brought to my attention of the release of the second season, I decided to give the first season a chance. To be honest, I didn’t expect to be as drawn into the anime as I was, due to the fact that I originally thought it was going to be quite repetitive, like kuroko no basket was, but my reaction was completely different.
Here is my review
‘Food Wars! Shokugeki no Souma centers on Yukihira Souma, a middle school student who is determined to surpass his father’s culinary skills. One day, his father decides to close down their family restaurant and hone his skills in Europe. Before leaving, he enrolls Souma in an elite culinary school that is extremely difficult to enter with a graduation rate of only 10 percent. Will Souma be able to improve his skills, or will the kitchen prove to be too hot?’
The story line is very interesting as everyone is so desperate to pass and the ones that do, show great courage and support for the others. Not only that but, I also love the competition aspect of the anime as ut makes the show quite intense, causing me to want to watch more. This 24 episode anime is great for those who are into sports anime considering the vibe is very similar in my opinion.
To be honest, the animation didn’t really stand out as much as I thought it would. I liked the use of chibis during the humourous scenes, however, it did sometimes take away the aesthetic of the show. Also, the food was animated perfectly which made me feel hungry as all the food looked really tasty.
There are a lot of characters to remember in this show. We have Souma’s highschool friends, home friends, camp judges and a lot more etc. Due to this, the creators decided to not delve into their personality too much, instead they made the characters have one single trait which made it easier to quickly judge who was who. I have mixed views about this as you can quickly tell who Souma is likely to get along with which diminishes a sense of mystery which is what the show needs.
I would give this anime
Thank you for reading.
I hope you have a wonderful day
